This cover of "Distinctieven der beweging NSB" made by NSB is simple and forceful. I think about the layout and imagine the hands setting the text, so carefully, so deliberately, the letters pressed into the page. I can almost feel the weight and pressure behind each word and design decision. What did the artist feel when making this? The stark contrast between the black background and the bold red lines create a striking visual tension, while the graphic logo in the top corner feels cold. The design is like an announcement, heavy with declaration. This cover belongs to a history of graphic design from this period, echoing others and yet, I want to think of graphic design as a constant conversation across time, with each artist building upon and responding to what came before, even as they forge new paths. It reminds me that creativity, even in the darkest of times, finds a way to express itself.
