George Stonehill’s 'Block Plan' is a watercolour on paper and it's making me think about space, memory and possibility. I imagine Stonehill, maybe with a cup of tea, carefully mapping out this bird's-eye view of a building and garden. He has meticulously rendered the textures of the building and the garden with light brushstrokes. It's a plan, sure, but it's also a dream—a possible world rendered in gentle greens, tans, and blues. The composition is so precise, yet there’s something tender about the way he handled the paint. It feels like he’s not just documenting but also caressing this space into existence. I wonder if this block plan was connected to other landscapes by the artist. How interesting it is to see how artists like Stonehill explore form, function, and feeling.
