About this artwork

Bridget Riley made this print called Fete, and it's all about how colors and shapes can make your eyes dance. She lays down these stripes, right? Solid blocks of color and then these, like, rhythmic black and white patterns that feel almost musical. It's like she's playing with our perception, making us see movement where there isn't any. I think about my own paintings, how I layer colors and lines, trying to find that sweet spot where things start to vibrate. Look at how each color seems to push against the others, how the stripes lean in different directions. Riley isn't just decorating a surface; she's creating an experience. It makes me think of Sol LeWitt. Though, where he had coldness, Riley has something more akin to joy. It’s a conversation, this art thing, one big, beautiful, never-ending back-and-forth.
