Lamouche made ‘Het laatste kattekwaad van Poes Snorbaart’ without telling us when. I love this piece because the figures are so weird. It’s a cartoon strip but feels like a painting because of the colouration and textures, the figures are wearing period costumes and the animals are all anthropomorphic. It feels like a fable or an old wives' tale being re-imagined and played out on the page. You can really tell that Lamouche enjoyed the process of creation. They weren’t afraid to make mistakes or try out new ideas. I wonder what they were thinking when they made it? I can imagine them laughing to themselves, being goofy, and making silly stories. This artwork reminds me of folk art and outsider art, where artists aren’t afraid to be unconventional and embrace their own unique vision. Artists like Henry Darger come to mind, with their fantastical stories and imaginary worlds. These kinds of artworks show us how painting can be a way of seeing, thinking, and experiencing the world in different ways.
