Louis Conrad Rosenberg created this print of the Cincinnati Terminal, but when? It is not clear from the metadata, so we are left to wonder when this image was made. Look at the sheer density of the city Rosenberg has created with line! It’s incredibly detailed, almost dizzying in its complexity, and it makes me think about the artist perched somewhere high above, maybe even in a plane. Was he thinking of how the terminal connected people from disparate walks of life? I imagine him, his hand moving across the plate, guided not just by sight but by feeling. His vision of the city emerged, shifting and solidifying with each mark made. Like other printmakers, he has captured a moment in time but also something timeless about urban spaces. These kinds of cityscapes always make me want to pack my bags and hop on a train, and just like that, artists continue to inspire new ways of seeing and experiencing the world!
