Jerzy Nowosielski made this painting with flat, geometric shapes and a cool palette. You know, it’s interesting how the absence of visible brushstrokes or texture almost makes you forget it’s a painting. The blues, greens, and sparing use of warm colours don't blend or bleed into one another, instead, these hues feel like paper cut-outs, creating distinct zones. And the way these shapes come together, the pyramid at the top, the horizontal band of colour in the middle, they suggest a landscape, like a flattened-out stage set. The red mark, smack-dab in the center, feels like an anchor, a focal point in all this blue-ishness. It vibrates, doesn’t it? There’s a stillness here, but also this playful, almost architectural composition. It reminds me a little of some of Agnes Martin's quieter grids, but with a twist. While Martin aimed for transcendence, Nowosielski feels more grounded, more about playing with the here and now. The painting isn’t trying to give you all the answers, and maybe that's the point.
