Editor: Here we have an untitled work by Robyn Denny, dimensions 794 by 724 mm. It's a bold red field dominated by geometric forms. What do you see here? Curator: Robyn Denny evokes a memory palace, a visual mnemonic device where each colour and shape are like coded triggers. Notice the red – does it stimulate a cultural association for you? Editor: It feels assertive, maybe even a bit confrontational? Curator: The red anchors the stack of shapes, acting as a psychological ground. The forms, contained, recall the Bauhaus’ efforts to define abstract meaning, but also the symbols of ancient ritual. What do these shapes suggest? Editor: I hadn’t considered that it might tap into something so deeply rooted in human history. Thanks! Curator: Art helps us see how past shapes the present.
