Andy Warhol made this ‘Sunset’ using silkscreen, that funny yet powerful way of printing. I can imagine him layering those colors, pink bleeding into the green and blue, making this hazy horizon line. It's like he's capturing a memory more than a scene. There’s something so simple about it, almost childlike, and yet, it really messes with your head. Was he thinking about Rothko's color fields, where the color just vibrates? Or maybe he was just playing with how we see, how a color can make us feel something without having to spell it out. That solid red sun, it’s so blunt, so unapologetic. Warhol always had a knack for taking something ordinary and making it iconic. And you know, in his world, everything’s a screen, everything’s a print, even a sunset. It's as if he's hinting that nature, too, is a kind of constructed image, a pop art of its own.
