Rupprecht Geiger made this artwork titled 541/69 with paint and canvas, and you can see the layers, feel the colour. It must’ve been a trip, painting this. I mean, imagine the first layer of green, so bright it almost vibrates off the canvas. Then, this soft, almost ghostly white oval floating on top. It’s not just about shapes or colours, but how they bump into each other, how they change each other. Look at how that green glows, it’s like he bottled some sunlight. I imagine Geiger, wrestling with the paint, trying to find the right balance, the right hum. It reminds me a little of Josef Albers and his colour studies, playing with perception, seeing how colours act on each other. Ultimately painting is an ongoing conversation between artists, each riffing off the others. It's all about expression and discovery.
