Dan Christensen made “Mo’ Blues” with paint, aiming for something that feels both focused and boundless. Look at how Christensen blurs the edges of each circle, softening the transition from color to color. The textures feel soft and almost airy, like distant memories. The blue is so complete, like staring into the sky for days. It’s pretty clear that he didn’t want any sharp lines that might get in the way of feeling. Think about the way Helen Frankenthaler poured thinned paint onto canvas, or the fogs and blurs of Turner’s seascapes – Christensen is part of that conversation, playing with light and atmosphere, pushing painting towards something more felt than seen. Art, at its best, isn’t about answers. It’s about opening up possibilities.
