About this artwork
Here we have six photographs of Loentje Onnen sailing with friends on the Loosdrechtse Plassen. You know, looking at them, it's hard not to think about the joy of making and capturing a moment like this. There's something so appealing about this scene, like stepping into a memory. I'm drawn to the way these photos are presented, almost like stills from a movie, which adds a tactile dimension to the work. The warmth of the sepia tones gives these moments a timeless feel. They appear to be pasted into an album, which creates a patchwork of memories. The bottom left photograph is really interesting, it's composition and clarity suggesting a deliberate framing, giving the photograph a more thoughtful quality, compared to other more candid shots. It reminds me a little of someone like Gerhard Richter who embraced photography as part of his painting practice, playing with found images and personal archives.
