Tadasky made ‘C 200’ using flat planes of colour in concentric circles. The colours are really upbeat, almost pop-art, and laid down with precision, which is interesting because when I paint circles they tend to wobble all over the place. I like the way the lines of colour are softened by a kind of halo effect, like an aura. It's almost as if the colours are buzzing on the canvas. The surface looks really smooth, which makes me think about control, and the way hard edge painting can almost become an illusion. How much the artist is present, and how much they are trying to disappear. The central point seems off, like a slight disruption. Perhaps that’s just my eye, or maybe it’s a tiny hint of something off-kilter in an otherwise controlled process. There's something here that relates to the work of Bridget Riley. Both artists really make you think about the act of perception.
