This is Tadasky’s D 124, a painting of concentric circles, made with cool precision. There’s something kind of hypnotic about the way these rings pulse outwards, the colours shifting like a sunset viewed through a kaleidoscope. I’m fascinated by the making of art, by how the physical act of applying paint to canvas can result in such complex images. Look closely, and you can almost trace the artist’s hand, the careful, methodical way each line was laid down. The surface is smooth, almost seamless, which adds to the overall sense of optical illusion. In the end it’s not just about what we see but also about how we see, about how the very act of perception can be a creative, transformative process. It reminds me a little of the work of Bridget Riley, though Tadasky has his own distinct flavour. These artists remind us that art is an ongoing conversation across time and space.
