This is Samuel Buri’s “Châlet psychédélique”, and I’m just imagining him, you know, spraying and stenciling with bright colors, layering a grid over some funky camouflage shapes. What a trip! I see that grid, trapping these oddly shaped color blocks: yellows, greens, silvers, and blues. I can almost feel him, or any painter, really, trying to pin something down, trap some fleeting image or idea. Is it a building, a landscape, or something else entirely? That drippy red outline, it's like graffiti meets a watercolor landscape, so loose yet contained, and everything is vibrating with color. I like how Buri juxtaposes these different styles, playing with texture, color, and surface. It reminds me that painters have always been in conversation with each other, borrowing and riffing and reacting against what came before. Ultimately, painting is a process of asking questions without necessarily finding answers, and embracing ambiguity and uncertainty. It's a conversation between the artist, the artwork, and, well, you!
