Adolf Fleischmann created "#100" using oil paint, to generate a study of color and form within a structured composition. The artwork presents a field of vertical stripes, primarily in black and white, overlaid with a circular pattern. This circle disrupts the regularity of the background, creating a focal point where colored stripes in yellow, silver, and orange are introduced. The composition is tightly organized, yet there's a sense of dynamism as the colored bars seem to float and interact with the starkness of the black and white lines. Fleischmann’s approach can be seen as a dialogue between order and disruption, where the circle acts as a signifier, both containing and liberating the grid-like structure. This play with geometric forms and chromatic relationships challenges the viewer to consider how structure can be a vehicle for both control and expression, reflecting a broader artistic concern with the limits and possibilities of abstraction.
