This fashion plate, *Très Parisien*, was made in 1927 by G-P. Joumard, likely as a print or illustration to be circulated. I love the way that the artist has used a limited palette of pinks, whites and browns. The colours are muted, but the forms are bold and definite. It's as if Joumard is making a statement about the arrival of the 'new woman'. Those dresses! How different they are from the clothes worn only a decade or two before. I can imagine Joumard sketching furiously, trying to capture the energy of the era. A quick, confident line. A dab of colour. A sense of lightness and movement. It's like the whole world has woken up, stretched, and is ready to dance! The image as a whole really speaks of the artist's desire to capture the essence of modern life and its changing fashions. Artists like Joumard really show us how fashion, like art, is a reflection of our society and culture.
