Fusión 2014

This piece, Fusión, by Requena Nozal is, for me, all about the dance of colour and gesture. The artist’s process feels immediate, intuitive. I’m really drawn to the physicality of the paint – that striking, almost violent slash of black across the fiery red ground. The black isn't solid; instead, it's built up from countless frantic marks. It's as if the artist attacked the surface with a loaded brush, each stroke a burst of energy. I like how the red peeps through this black. It's not just colour; it's texture, depth, and a raw, unfiltered expression. It’s a bit like the work of Pierre Soulages, where the act of painting becomes a record of pure, unadulterated feeling. There's no right or wrong way to see it, just an invitation to get lost in the push and pull of color and form.
