Lynda Benglis made this sculpture, Wing, using poured latex, probably in the 1970s, and the liquid material has an incredible sense of flow. The metallic color gives the piece an industrial edge, but the forms themselves are organic and undulating. You can see the way Benglis has manipulated the material, coaxing it into these suggestive shapes. It’s like watching a frozen moment of creation, capturing the raw energy of the artistic process. The hand-like form at the bottom is particularly striking. Are those fingers? Or just fluid forms solidifying? It’s this ambiguity that makes Benglis’s work so compelling. She reminds me a little of Eva Hesse, with that similar interest in how soft materials can take on an almost surreal presence. It’s a conversation about form, process, and the sheer physicality of being.
