This Milk Bottle Sculpture was crafted by Joe Goode. I find the off-white color choice really interesting here because it creates a feeling of softness, but the texture is so visibly built up, almost aggressively so. It's like Goode is messing with our expectations, luring us in with this familiar shape, and then BAM, we’re hit with the physicality of the thing! Looking closely, you can see these thick layers, like the paint is trying to escape its own surface. There’s a drip right there on the side, frozen in time, reminding us of the artist's hand, the moment of creation. It's not just about representing a milk bottle, it's about the messy, tactile process of artmaking itself. There’s something of Guston in here, that same willingness to embrace awkwardness and physicality. Ultimately, it's this tension, this push and pull between representation and abstraction, that makes the piece so compelling for me.
