Michel Blazy's "Fontaine," presents a simple bottle, the kind beer or soda might come in, perched atop a raw wooden block. What arrests us is the substance flowing from the bottle, like white paint, hardening as it runs down both the bottle and the block. This isn't traditional bronze or marble; Blazy is playing with the everyday. A discarded glass bottle and a roughly cut piece of wood become the readymade materials of his sculpture. The effect is a dance between control and chance. Blazy sets up the conditions, but the liquid takes its own course, staining and transforming the pristine wood. This challenges the traditional idea of the artist as master craftsman. Instead, Blazy embraces the unpredictable nature of his materials. Ultimately, "Fontaine" invites us to reconsider what we value. It's not about technical skill, but about seeing potential in the ordinary, and allowing materials to speak for themselves.
