Werner Haypeter created this artwork entitled ‘Dialogue’ which features two champagne glasses on a rectangular pedestal, placed in front of a square outline, all of which seem to be made from clear materials. In this piece the focus is more on material, which is an important aspect of any artwork. It is clear that Haypeter is having a conversation, not only with his audience, but with himself, about the nature of construction and the process of making art. The champagne glasses could be interpreted as a physical representation of the dialogue hinted at in the title. Then, the square outline behind and the neutral, rectangular pedestal at the bottom, seem to be in conversation too. These are all separate objects brought together in a singular place and purpose. This piece reminds me of the work of conceptual artist Sol LeWitt. But where LeWitt was interested in the modularity of structures, Haypeter, is more focused on the interpersonal relationships between those individual objects.
