This translucent blue form is one of Helen Pashgian’s “Untitled” sculptures. Doesn’t it make you wonder about light and space? I can imagine Pashgian in her studio, experimenting with different materials and forms to capture and manipulate light. The colour she has created is so beautiful, it reminds me of Yves Klein. Pashgian's probably thinking about how the light interacts with the translucent material, creating subtle gradations and a sense of depth, maybe even trapping some of the light within the form itself, right? I think of the work of other artists who have explored similar themes, like James Turrell, and how artists are always in conversation, pushing the boundaries of perception and inviting us to see the world in new ways. It feels like a really new type of painting.
