This photograph titled ‘Daily Life in Moengo’ was taken by an anonymous photographer. It's hard not to look at these images, arranged on a larger page, and wonder about their relationship to each other. I imagine the photographer, documenting life in Moengo, Suriname, carefully framing each shot. What was it like to be there? I'm drawn to the top image. The way the light catches the metal of the truck and the blocky architecture in the background. The photographer captured the industry of this place, the everyday labor of the people, and the way they lived alongside the natural world. The woman in the bottom image is striking. Her stance, her clothing, the basket she is carrying on her head. Each element gives a sense of the person and the life she lived. I feel a connection to this person I will never meet; the photograph connects us across time. Photographers have the opportunity to frame the world around us, inviting us to slow down and truly see.
