This is a collection of photographs in an album, titled “Groepen en schip” – Groups and ship - by an anonymous artist. Looking at the image I feel a longing for the past, for travel, for connection. Four small photographs rest on a dark page. Each like a little window into another world and time. I'm immediately drawn to the image of the ship; maybe the artist felt the same way? It hints at adventure, journeys to distant places. I can imagine the artist standing on the shore, watching the ship sail away, wondering what awaits. Maybe the artist was thinking about painting when they took it? The ship could be a giant brushstroke on the water. I like to think all artists are in constant conversation. It’s cool how a photo can freeze a moment and then become a portal.
