This print, Très Parisien, 1926, No. 2, Pl. 16: - LES ACACIAS, by G-P. Joumard, feels like it was made with such tender care. The light, powdery palette and the graphic lines evoke a feeling of delicate elegance. I wonder what Joumard was thinking when they made it. I can see them being very careful with the colour; a thin wash of peach, and an early form of graphic design for the dresses. The dresses themselves look so fun to wear. There is a softness to the forms, a deliberate simplification that echoes the Art Deco aesthetic. It's almost as if Joumard is playing with the conventions of fashion illustration, finding a place for abstraction within representation. I can’t help but wonder if Joumard felt a sense of possibility, of contributing to a broader artistic conversation around modernism. And how that conversation extended from the canvas to the street, impacting everyday life.
