This fashion plate, *Très Parisien*, was made in 1926 with some kind of printmaking process, probably pochoir, and you can see the stencils in the flatness of the colour. The palette is limited but the effect is totally vivid and of its time. The way the colors are laid down, they don't blend or mix so much as abut one another, creating clear boundaries and graphic shapes. Like the way the green coat meets the white dress underneath: it’s less about perfect representation and more about an idea of form and fashion, with this real sense of geometry to it. I love the little flower heads on the left-hand dress! They're almost like cartoon eyes, giving the whole thing a slightly surreal, playful quality. It reminds me a little of the prints of someone like Sonia Delaunay, who also played with graphic shapes and bold colors, thinking about the relationship between fashion and the visual arts.
