G-P. Joumard’s “Très Parisien, 1925” is an illustration, likely made with watercolor or gouache, that captures the fashion of its time through a stylized lens. The way the colors are laid down, almost flat, emphasizes shape and contour over depth, making you think about the choices involved in depicting these dresses. I love the color palette here – those muted, dusky pinks against the beige of the backdrop. And the way the outlines are drawn with such confidence, defining the forms so cleanly, it's almost like a coloring book, but with impeccable taste. Look at the dress on the left, the subtle variations in the pink, and the way the light seems to glide across the surface. This piece reminds me a bit of Erte's work, in that it has a similar focus on fashion and design. It’s all about surface and style. Yet, there’s something uniquely charming in Joumard's approach, something in the deliberate choices that invites us to see beyond the surface.
