Frederik Christiaan Filip Gräfe designed the "Delftsche Studenten-Almanak voor 1888," which translates to Delft Student Almanac for 1888. This almanac offers a glimpse into the social and academic lives of students in Delft during the late 19th century. Within its pages, we might imagine discovering a blend of academic schedules, social events, and perhaps even satirical commentary reflecting the values and concerns of its intended audience. These almanacs often served as a microcosm of the broader society. They reflected the prevalent attitudes towards class, gender, and academic life. Produced in a time of evolving social norms, this almanac can tell us a lot about the dominant narratives of the time. While documenting day-to-day life, it also invites us to reflect on how much has changed, and how much remains the same.
