Loentje Furnée met vrienden en kinderen op een strand en in een dorp is a photo album page by Carolina (Loentje) Frederika Onnen. It is a collage of monochrome photographs. The material presence of these small photographs is really interesting; they are attached to brown card, and the compositions feel very intuitive and spontaneous. There is a photo of a group of children playing on a beach; the grain is really apparent which suggests that the image was taken on film. I'm also drawn to the way that the photographs have slightly ragged edges, like the artist has torn them by hand. It makes me think of Gerhard Richter's blurred paintings, because there is a kind of softness and intimacy, which evokes themes of memory and loss. This work reminds me that art is an ongoing conversation across generations.
