Doorsnede van een gebouw over de lengte

Curatorial notes
This is Willem Springer Jr.'s "Doorsnede van een gebouw over de lengte," a schematic view of a building, meticulously rendered in graphite. The linear precision and starkness of the architectural blueprint evokes a sense of order and rationality. Yet, we must look beyond the surface to understand the deeper currents flowing beneath. Consider the window, an opening that is not just a source of light, but a portal to the outside world. Windows appear as eyes, staring out at the world, each carrying a story, a reflection of the human spirit contained within these walls. From ancient Roman villas to the Gothic cathedrals, the window has evolved from mere necessity to symbolic element. It offers a view but also a frame, a way to capture a piece of the world and bring it into our consciousness. As we engage with this image, our understanding of space, light, and the human experience becomes more nuanced.
