Martha Boto made Structure Transparente from acrylic and aluminum; it's an artwork that lives in the realm of light and space. The beauty of this sculpture lies in its simplicity and the repetition of forms. The clear acrylic cubes, suspended on what look like delicate threads, create a sense of lightness and suspension. They hang like frozen rain. Looking at it, I'm struck by how Boto uses transparency and reflection to play with our perception. The cubes seem to multiply and shift as we move around the sculpture, creating a dynamic visual experience. It’s like a dance, a constant play of light and shadow. It reminds me a little bit of some of the Light and Space artists in California, like Larry Bell, but with a more structured, geometric approach. There's a stillness here, too, a meditative quality that invites you to pause and contemplate the interplay of form and light. Ultimately, the artwork is about the possibilities of art as a conversation, a constant dialogue between artists and ideas, across time and space.
