This anonymous quilt top with its appliqué stars, it’s hard to know when it was made, but it's really something. Can you imagine the hours of stitching? I can almost feel the maker’s hands, pressing and smoothing, the needle flashing in the light, a rhythm of creation. I love the simple palette of reds and greens; it feels so grounded, so connected to the earth. It’s as if the maker was trying to capture something essential, something solid, like hope, like history, in these repeating patterns. Each star, though similar, has its own unique character. I wonder what stories are embedded in each block. In a way, a quilt is just a big abstract painting made with fabric, and here, in the maker's conversation with material and form, we glimpse into the possibilities of art. We are all quilting, somehow, piecing together scraps of experience into something whole, something beautiful, something meaningful.
