Ice Grape 2008

Beatriz Milhazes made this screenprint called 'Ice Grape' and it looks like she was having a lot of fun. It's like a visual party, full of shapes and colours. I can imagine her in the studio, layering images, maybe even dancing a little as she worked! Each shape feels like a note in a song, hitting a different beat, a different rhythm. It's wild. Look at the way she uses colour – the oranges and purples feel so warm, but then the silvers add a layer of, dare I say, coolness. I wonder if she was thinking about the history of printmaking while she was making this? Or maybe she was just in the moment, letting her intuition guide her. I feel like there’s a conversation happening between all these different marks, like ideas bouncing off each other. It reminds me that art is alive, changing, and always open to new possibilities.
