This is an anonymous print sample, twelve by twelve inches of black and white fabric, and to me it's all about the push and pull of positive and negative space. It's a total visual game! There’s something so satisfying about the way the stark white lines create these angular, almost architectural forms against the dark background. The texture of the fabric peeks through, giving it this grounded, handmade feel. My eye keeps darting around, trying to decide if the white or the black is the main event. It’s like staring at one of those optical illusions where the image flips back and forth. The whole thing reminds me a little bit of some of those bold Bauhaus textile designs – but with a rougher, more immediate edge. It’s less polished, maybe, but it has this raw energy that's really appealing. It's a reminder that art is always a conversation, building on what came before while adding something new and unexpected.
