Here's a print sample of a 12 by 12 inch textile made by an anonymous artist. It's striking in its simplicity: black and white, triangles and squares. I’m imagining the artist, maybe hunched over a table, carefully plotting out the design. It’s hard to know for sure, but it looks like a hand-printed piece. I wonder if they were thinking about Mondrian while they made it. The way the white lines create a grid, but then are disrupted by those triangles...It feels both ordered and chaotic. You know, it’s funny how something so simple can be so engaging. It reminds me that art doesn’t have to be complicated to be powerful. It’s a beautiful little thing. It speaks to how artists are constantly riffing off each other, even across time. Like one big conversation.
