Janos Mattis-Teutsch made this painting, "Yellow Landscape" with what looks like oil on canvas. It's a trip into some kind of landscape, but not one I've ever been to. Imagine the artist with a brush loaded with pigment, maybe lost in thought or in a conversation with the painting itself. A big yellow sun or moon dominates, and these weird curving lines are all around, kind of like the landscape is breathing. You know? I wonder what he was thinking as he swirled those lines and laid down those greens and purples? He had to feel the weight of the brush in his hand, smell the paint and feel the give of the canvas. Maybe he was in dialogue with artists from the past? I feel like that's always the case, we're all just bouncing ideas off each other, across time. It reminds me of Kandinsky. Painting is an ongoing conversation that never ends.
