Janos Mattis-Teutsch made this landscape with what looks like crayon, or maybe pastel, and it’s all about the energy of mark-making! I love how the bright yellow vibrates against these strokes of green, red, and blue. It’s not exactly a picture of a landscape, more like a feeling of one. The strokes are so alive, they kind of dance on the surface. Look at that looping red line on the left, how it curves and bends, almost like a playful scribble. You can almost feel the artist’s hand moving across the paper. It reminds me a bit of Arthur Dove, another artist who wasn’t afraid to let loose with color and form. Ultimately, art like this reminds us that seeing isn't just about recording, it’s about feeling and interpreting.
