Editor: This untitled work by Victor Pasmore features simple geometric shapes in muted tones. The canvas texture is quite prominent. What can you tell me about the materials and process? Curator: The interplay between the artist's hand and the inherent qualities of the materials is intriguing. Pasmore’s choice of what looks like perhaps pastel on textured paper creates a dialogue between the industrial and the organic, don't you think? Editor: I do! It's a cool contrast. Curator: It invites us to consider the social context of art production – the labour, the consumption, the very materiality of art itself. What do you make of that? Editor: I hadn't thought about it that way, but the texture of the paper, almost like it was handmade, does add to that idea. I appreciate how this perspective reveals a whole new layer to the work!
