This 19th-century *inro*, a traditional Japanese tiered container, is a fine example of the Kajikawa School's craftsmanship. The *inro* is decorated with a delicate scene of flowering cherry branches seen through a bamboo blind, a motif that evokes the beauty of nature and the fleeting nature of life. The intricate details of the *inro*, with its black lacquer background and gold leaf accents, highlight the skilled artistry of the Kajikawa School. The accompanying *netsuke*, a small carving that attaches the *inro* to a sash, depicts a monkey, a symbol of longevity and wisdom. The *inro* and *netsuke* together form a harmonious ensemble that showcases the craftsmanship of traditional Japanese art.

The wrap-around design on this inrō is interestingly framed by a highly detailed representation of a bamboo blind. The perspective is such that the viewer feels as though he is peeking out from beneath the blind to catch a glimpse of the blossoming plum trees. The scene is executed in takamaki-e with gold and silver powder and colored lacquer over a roiro background.
