Charles Garjian made this drawing of a Side Chair, with no date given, using a simple colour palette. It's all about letting the marks build up, you know? Like artmaking is a process of discovery, not just about copying. The way the colours shift in the red fabric is beautiful, like the actual material is aged. You can almost feel the texture of the upholstered chair and the smooth wood, like Garjian knew the chair intimately. Look at how he renders the ornate details, they are given just enough attention, without being too labored over, and it makes you think about touch and surface. Garjian’s Side Chair reminds me of some of Fairfield Porter's more domestic interiors. Both artists capture the feeling of lived-in spaces, where objects carry memories and stories. Art isn't about fixed answers, but about embracing the questions, and letting the conversation unfold.
