This elegant chair, made by an unknown artist with watercolor and graphite on paper, is really something! The surface is so smooth, but the details in the wood grain are incredibly precise. Look how the artist used different shades of brown and red to capture the light playing across the wood’s surface. There's a real sense of depth and volume. The cushion, though, is a different story – a soft, floral pattern that looks almost like it's been smudged or blurred. I love how the artist has really focused on the ornate carvings, especially those clawed feet. The precision reminds me of Durer's engravings. I wonder if this person was trained as a craftsman, or perhaps an architect? It’s almost a technical drawing, but one made with so much love! What can a chair be but a feat of engineering? What can a drawing be but a space to imagine a world of possibilities?
