"Mars and Venus" is an engraving created by Dutch artist Hendrick Goltzius in 1588. The artwork depicts the Roman god of war, Mars, embracing the Roman goddess of love, Venus, while a winged Cupid stands to their left pulling back a curtain. This scene is set in a luxurious interior and is a classic example of Mannerist art. The exaggerated poses, dramatic use of light and shadow, and the intricate details of the drapery all contribute to the sense of movement and tension in the work.
