This is Aurelie Nemours' 'Les ongles noirs', and what strikes me is how such a simple composition can feel so alive. It’s all about the push and pull of color, the flat black against the warm, almost metallic gold. Up close, you can see that the gold isn’t just a flat plane, it's got this subtle texture, maybe from the brushstrokes or the way the paint was applied. It makes you think about the hand that made it, the physical act of painting. That top right corner, where the gold meets the black? It’s not perfect, it’s not a clean line. There’s a slight wobble, a human touch that keeps the whole thing from feeling too rigid. Nemours' work reminds me a bit of Agnes Martin, in the sense that both artists create these quiet, meditative spaces with just a few simple elements. But where Martin is all soft and ethereal, Nemours is bold, strong, and so self-assured. Art is always a conversation, right?
