Guido Molinari made "Quadriblanc" with paint, building something quiet and measured. There's such a contrast between the white and black. It’s like a game of positive and negative space, each shape defined by its relationship to the other. Look closely and you can see how the paint is applied in flat, even layers, there's no visible brushwork here. I feel the texture is almost absent, giving it a graphic, almost printed quality. That block on the right, made of two stacked rectangles, feels like a solid presence. Its placement creates a tension, pulling our eye down, and balancing the larger form on the left. I’m reminded of Sol LeWitt, though Molinari brings a distinctly Canadian sensibility to his work, spare and elegant. It’s a reminder that art is about finding new ways to see, and perhaps more importantly, new ways to feel.
