Jesus Rafael Soto’s ‘Mirror’ seems like it was carefully constructed, line by line, to create a portal that reflects and refracts. The mirror's framed by blue, black, and white stripes, arranged in such a way that they seem to vibrate and shift. I can imagine Soto, meticulously placing each line, playing with the tension between order and chaos. What’s cool is how the mirror isn't just reflecting an image, it's also reflecting the surrounding world – us. It merges our space with the artwork's space, blurring the lines between what's real and what's perceived. The artist seems to have used seriality to make something that is so incredibly alive and responsive. It’s almost as though it’s trying to communicate with us. It’s such a simple concept, yet it opens up so many possibilities!
