These three small photographs of people in the dunes of Noordwijk were taken by Carolina (Loentje) Frederika Onnen. The sepia tone and arrangement on the album page create a nostalgic tableau, evoking a sense of a bygone era. Each photograph presents a distinct composition. In one, figures are nestled amidst the dune grasses, almost camouflaged by the natural setting. Another shows a group of figures posed in a more formal arrangement. The third composition has figures resting and interacting. The images, with their variations in perspective and arrangement, explore themes of social interaction, leisure, and the relationship between the figures and their environment. Though seemingly candid, each photograph is carefully composed, presenting a curated view of social life in the dunes. The arrangement of the photographs on the album page further emphasizes their constructed nature, transforming personal snapshots into a deliberate visual narrative.
