This photo album page was assembled by the Wachenheimer family in Munich in March and April 1931. The thing that grabs me here is the sequencing, the way the family has arranged and framed these moments. You have exterior shots of the apartment building and the surrounding neighborhood, then interior shots where the drapes act like a theatrical frame, and finally, the baby Isabel, centered, staring right back at the camera – and us. It's like the family is building a narrative, a sense of place and belonging. The contrast between the crisp architectural shots and the soft focus on Isabel makes me think about memory, how we hold onto specific details while others fade. It's a reminder that artmaking, like life, is about curating, editing, and finding meaning in the everyday. The way the family put this album together reminds me of something Moyra Davey would do, taking snapshots of her apartment and making them into something bigger.
