These black and white photographs pasted onto card, titled "Oranjefeesten", are an invitation to consider the act of archiving. I can imagine the artist sifting through the images, selecting, cropping, arranging. What was their intention in creating this visual record? It's a bit like curating a show, right? The grainy texture and tonal range evokes a sense of time passing, fading memories and shifting perspectives, much like a Gerhard Richter painting. Each photograph offers a glimpse into another reality, while collectively, they evoke a mood that is both nostalgic and slightly mysterious. I'm drawn to the relationship between the images and the surface to which they're affixed, too. Ultimately, it emphasizes the artist's hand, their mark-making gesture.
