This is a page from a family photo album, captured in Munich in June 1931 by the Wachenheimer family. It is rendered in shades of grey and brown. The layout itself feels like an artwork, the way the photos are arranged and juxtaposed on the page, like a personal, visual poem. There’s a tactile quality to the album page, you can almost feel the texture of the paper and the slight imperfections in the photographic prints. The snapshots of Isabel and her father, Eugen, are so intimate and casual, like stolen moments frozen in time. Then you have the images of the Englischer Garten, the English Garden, offering a glimpse of the natural world outside their domestic space. The handwriting on the page, like the inscription "Vater u. Tochter," Father and Daughter, feels particularly poignant. It reminds me a bit of Gerhard Richter's "Atlas," a collection of photographs and clippings that served as source material for his paintings. Both works share a sense of personal history and the beauty found in everyday life. It reminds us that art isn't just about grand gestures, but also about the quiet moments, the small details, and the stories we tell ourselves.
