This page of photographs by Foto Brusse feels like a study in grayscale, laid out in a deliberate, almost architectural manner. Each print, a small window into a different castle or palace, is affixed to the gray page at a slight angle, creating a dynamic tension. The composition brings to mind Kurt Schwitters’ collages, where everyday materials are repurposed and arranged to create something new. Look at the photograph in the upper left. It’s the only image where trees and foliage aren’t visible. What feeling does this evoke? I can imagine Brusse carefully positioning each photograph, considering their placement in relation to one another, much like a painter arranging shapes on a canvas. It reminds us that artmaking is a dialogue across mediums and disciplines, where photography speaks to painting, and collage echoes architecture. There are endless ways of seeing.
