Samuel Buri made "La vue de Pierre Bonnard" and what strikes me is the layering—both of color and of representation. It’s like he’s saying, “Okay, let’s look at the world, but let’s also look at how we look at the world, and how we represent it.” I love how he’s framed smaller images within larger blocks of color, setting up a playful tension between abstraction and figuration. I wonder, was he thinking about Bonnard’s intimate interiors, his way of capturing fleeting moments of everyday life? There’s a tenderness to the colours, but also a boldness in the way they clash and vibrate against each other. And what about that star pattern? It introduces a totally different dimension, disrupting any sense of a singular perspective. In a way, artists are always responding to and riffing off each other. Buri seems to be in conversation not just with Bonnard, but with a whole history of painting. It's as if he’s saying, “Here’s my take, my view,” acknowledging that seeing is never a neutral act.
