Dan Christensen made PR using spray paint on canvas; a dreamy field of horizontal lines in pastel shades. I’m thinking about how the artwork came into being; Christensen must have had such a light touch to produce such ethereal lines. I sympathize with him, picturing the many layers and slow build up to the finished piece. What was he thinking when he was making it? There’s a real emphasis on the surface; the application of the paint is so thin it’s almost as if it's been breathed onto the canvas. Each gesture communicates feeling; the lightness and gentleness of the line is almost like a sigh. I see it as a kind of abstraction where the softness and harmony of the colours are the main focus. It’s almost like Christensen is saying, "Hey, look at these pretty colours." It's a beautiful, soft moment from an artist who's always having a conversation with the history of painting.
